The origin of the name
The Invalides are among the most emblematic monuments of the capital. It was Louis XIV who ordered in 1670 to build this construction to accommodate the blind, maimed and other disabled who were wounded in the war. We owe this masterpiece of classical architecture to Liberal Bruant and Jules Hardouin-Mansart. A building that not only played the role of hospital, hospice, but also barracks and monastery. In addition, Les Invalides has been home to the Army Museum since 1896. In addition there are two churches built in the same place, namely the Invalides dome and the Saint-Louis-des-Invalides church (now cathedral). Moreover, the Invalides have the distinction of being the ultimate home of 120 personalities including Napoleon, including the hearts (out of their bodies) of generals and the architect Vauban.
The hotel des Invalides is located at 129 Rue de Grenelle, in the 7th arrondissement. A subway station is named after the site, it is served by line 8 and line 13. Invalides are the name of one of the 80 administrative districts of the City of Light which extends on 1.07 kilometer square and remains populated with about 6,300 inhabitants.
